Harrison Hot Springs is the resort village at the south end of Harrison Lake, about 33 kilometres and a little over half an hour by road from Bailey Landfill, across the Fraser and through Agassiz. The 2021 census counted 1,905 residents in 885 occupied dwellings, up almost 30 percent in five years, and a large share of those dwellings are cabins, condos and houses that spend part of the year as vacation rentals. The economy is the springs, the lake, the marina, the golf course and the July Festival of the Arts.
That mix produces a specific kind of junk: rental furniture turned over between seasons, cabin contents when a property changes hands, decks and docks rebuilt after a wet winter, and the appliances a short-term rental burns through. Because Harrison has no landfill of its own, the Village's waste goes to Bailey in Chilliwack, and the City lists Harrison among the areas whose asbestos waste it accepts.
